Energy Ratings & U Values for Doors & Windows
All new doors must have a door U Value rating of 1.8W/m2K or less as of October 2010. Every single door that AWM Windows and Doors provides complies with U values. However, we always offer you the choice to go above and above the standards by upgrading to Thermal Spacer Bars, which is an A-rated glass with a U-Value of 1.4W/m²K.
In addition to ensuring that our doors and windows are completely U value compliant, AWM Windows and Doors is committed to helping our clients comprehend the rules as much as possible. This U Value section was developed to clear up any misunderstandings and encourage wise decision-making.
Building Regulations Documents L1A (New Dwellings) 2010 & L1B (Existing Dwellings) 2010 are the sources of the following information.
FITTING
(A) STANDARD FOR NEW FITTINGS IN NEW DWELLINGS
Window, roof window and roof light
U-Value = 2.0W/m²K
U-Value = 1.6W/m²K or Window Energy Rating = Band C
Doors with more than 50% of their internal face area glazed
1.8W/m²K
1.8W/m²K (or exempt if fitted into existing door frame)

Energy Efficient External Doors
The rules are scheduled to alter once more in the upcoming year. The UK aims to cut its carbon footprint by up to 30% starting on July 1st, 2022.
Energy-efficient doors will be required as a result of the most recent changes to building codes. Since the U value for doors is about to be introduced, all new doors must have a value of 1.8W/m2K or less, which is the current benchmark for energy-efficient windows. We believe this is a smart step since, if your entrance isn’t energy efficient, heat will find the least insulated spot and escape through it, making it useless to have “A” rated windows and insulate your roof and walls.
